Who we are
Almost American is operated by Scarpa Re Investments LLC (Florida, USA), c/o Northwest Registered Agent LLC, 7901 4th St N STE 300, St. Petersburg, FL 33702, USA. You can reach us at support@almostamerican.app for any privacy question or request. We are not affiliated with USCIS or any U.S. government agency.
What we deliberately do not collect
Because of what this app is about, it is worth stating first what we refuse to hold: we never ask for and never store your A-number, USCIS receipt number, Social Security number, passport or green card details, immigration documents, case history, or travel history. The app does not have a place to put them. If you ever see a page claiming to be us and asking for those, it is not us — report it at uscis.gov/avoid-scams.
What the app collects
Almost American was designed to work mostly offline. Your progress (XP, streak, right and wrong answers, completed lessons, and any date you type into the planner) is saved only on your device, in local storage. We do not require account creation and do not collect your name or email in the app.
What the website collects
If you type your email address into the waitlist form on this website, we store that email address, the date, the page you signed up from, and the country your browser connection came from — so we can email you once when the app launches, and so we can tell real signups from bot traffic. Nothing else. We do not use cookies, we do not run advertising trackers, and we do not track you across other sites (the cookieless page counter we use is described under Analytics below). Our hosting and security providers (Vercel and Cloudflare) process your IP address and standard technical request logs to serve and protect the site, as any web host does.
You can ask us to delete your email at any time by writing to support@almostamerican.app, and every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. We keep waitlist addresses only until launch plus a reasonable period, and we do not sell or rent them.
Trip tracker (travel dates you enter)
The app includes an optional trip tracker so you can keep your own record of time spent outside the United States before your interview. Anything you type there — destinations and dates — is stored only on your device, alongside the rest of your progress. It is never sent to our servers, to us, or to anyone else, and we cannot see it. You can delete any trip from the screen itself, and deleting the app erases all of it. Because this is sensitive information about your own history, we recommend keeping your phone locked with a passcode or biometrics.
Notifications
If you enable the daily reminder, we schedule a local notification on your own device. This sends no data to our servers.
Voice (text-to-speech)
Reading questions aloud in English uses your operating system’s own speech synthesizer (iOS/Android), processed on-device — no audio is sent anywhere.
AI Simulated Interview (optional feature)
When you use the AI Simulated Interview, on-device speech recognition transcribes your spoken answer into text — raw audio never leaves your phone. Only that transcribed text is sent to our server and to Anthropic (our AI model provider) to grade your answer, in real time. Our server processes and discards it immediately; it is not stored and it is never used to train AI models. This feature requires an internet connection.
Subscriptions and payments
Subscription purchases are processed by the App Store (Apple) or Google Play, and by RevenueCat, our subscription management provider. We never see or store your credit card data — that is handled entirely by Apple and Google. RevenueCat generates an anonymous device identifier that is not linked to your name or email.
Analytics
In the app: Almost American does not use any third-party analytics or advertising SDK, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. If we add aggregate, anonymized product-usage analytics to the app in the future, we will update this policy first.
On this website: we use Vercel Web Analytics to count page visits in aggregate. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. To tell visits apart, Vercel computes a hash from the incoming request (for example, from your IP address and browser) that is valid for a single day and is then discarded, so it cannot recognize you on another day or on other websites. For each page view it records the page and the page that linked to it, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and your device type, operating system and browser. We only see aggregate numbers — never who you are. Vercel describes this at vercel.com/docs/analytics/privacy-policy.
Sharing with third parties
We do not sell or share personal information, and we have not done so in the past twelve months. Data processed by our providers (Apple, Google, RevenueCat, Anthropic, Cloudflare, Vercel) follows those providers’ own privacy policies, and they act only on our instructions. We will disclose data if legally required by a valid court order or law, and only what is legally required.
Where data is processed
Our providers process data in the United States. If you use the app from outside the U.S., including the European Union or the United Kingdom, your data may be transferred to and processed in the U.S. under the safeguards those providers maintain.
How long we keep things
Your progress stays on your device for as long as the app is installed — deleting the app deletes it. AI Simulated Interview text is not retained at all. Technical logs follow our providers’ standard retention. Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion.
Your rights
You can erase all of your progress at any time from Profile → “Reset progress,” or by uninstalling the app.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, delete, or export the personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, these rights come from the GDPR; our legal basis for the waitlist is your consent, and for operating and securing the service, our legitimate interest. If you are in California, you have the rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale or sharing under the CCPA/CPRA — we do not sell or share — and we will never discriminate against you for exercising them. Write to support@almostamerican.app and we will respond within the time the law allows.
Children
This app is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
Civics test content
The 128 official questions and answers are published by USCIS (Form M-1778) and are in the public domain. This app is educational and is not immigration legal advice.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change how we handle your data, we will update this page and the in-app copy, and revise the date above.
